Counting in Vehicles: Passenger Counting Systems and Passenger Counters

Infodev's passenger counting equipment and other products for the transit industry can be divided in 4 categories:


DA-20 Directional passenger counter
The DA-20 directional sensor series is designed to count people in buses, light rail and other public transit vehicles. It detects the passage of people and determines their direction. It incorporates an innovative electro-optical approach.

DA-200 Stand-alone directional passenger counter
While our DA-20 directional sensors require a DL-10B Data-Logger to analyse and store counting data, the DA-200 is stand-alone. It incorporates a microprocessor that analyses the counting signals and memory to store the data.

DM-20 Multiple sensor bar
When working with wide doors, we can either use several sensors in an array or install a multiple-sensor bar, which is an elegant aluminium bar that integrated well in the original design of most vehicles.


DL-10B On-board computer
The Data-Logger is the backbone of our passenger counting system. It analyses the signals received from the counting sensors in real time, then stores the results in memory. It also records the vehicle's position from the GPS antenna.

GW-200 Communication Gateway
The GW-200 is Infodev's passenger counting solution for integrators. The Communication Gateway is the communication link between the DA-200 autonomous sensor and the third party on-board computer.

DC-10 Data-Collector
The DC-10 data collector is a tiny portable computer that fits easily in the palm of your hand. It links the vehicle's on-board computer and the garage computer, fulfilling two functions: downloading the data stored in the on-board computer and.


The people counting data generated by the on-board microcomputer during the trip can be analysed in many different ways: spreadsheet, plots, graphs.

BusStops WebReports
WebReports is very easy to use, powerful and accurate. Diagnose problems more efficiently by producing data tables, line graphs or even bar graphs comparing different stops, routes or time periods.

The IR-20 infrared modem comes with the optional IRMAN utility. IRMAN is a practical software tool that keeps tracks of vehicle downloads and helps identify errors or vehicles that have a saturated memory.


Automatic Passenger Counting System (APC)
Directional passenger counting is Infodev's speciality. We installed our first directional counting system in a bus in 1995. Since then, we have refined and improved our counting system to provide counting accuracy above 95%, usually reaching 97-98%!

Traffic Light Priority System
Infodev's traffic light priority system is different from other such systems in that it uses a distributed architecture that requires no human intervention. Our sophisticated data acquisition systems know when to require a lengthening of the green light.

Preventive Maintenance
Infodev's integrated systems can be connected to many parameters in your vehicles. By monitoring these parameters, it becomes easier to single out vehicles that need maintenance and those that can wait.

Schedule Adherence
Infodev's schedule adherence system helps you identify problem areas, both in lead and lag times, so you can either adjust the schedules or optimize the routes.

Automatic Vehicle Localization (AVL)
Automatic vehicle localization systems (AVLS) are used to track vehicle movements and identify stops on a route. Infodev's AVLS can be added on our existing automatic passenger counting system (APC) using only a small GPS antenna.

Indoors Vehicle Localization
With Infodev's indoors vehicle location system, the driver parks his/her vehicle and simply walks away. The next day, the driver keys in the vehicle number and sees where it is on a representation of your garage or depot.

Video Event Recording
This compact digital video camera is a great complement to Infodev's APC system. Controlled by our on-board computer, it can have many uses.

Automated Voice Announcement
This automated voice announcement lets you communicate with your passengers without distracting the vehicle's operator. You can use it for next stop announcements, general or even promotional announcements.
